Reggie Devoyage might read like the name of a person – and in a way, it is. Reggie is a sketchy character stuck in the ’80s, who spends his nights in a smoky basement, listening to old cassette tapes under the glow of a nearly burnt-out desk lamp. This is the imagery that shapes the sound of the Cologne-based band, made up of longtime friends Hannah, Alexi, and In-Won. After many late-night sessions, Reggie Devoyage emerged as a musical playground for lo-fi synth-pop with a fondness for clichés and irony.
Inspired by sonic textures of the ’80s and all shades of weirdo pop (e.g. Yellow Magic Orchestra, Sade, Ariel Pink), their songs are both thought-out and playful, crafted with attention to detail but always with a wink. They rely on quirky synths, intimate vocals, and bold bass lines. And Reggie? He never leaves the room – always there, eyebrow raised, quietly pulling the musical strings.
